Art, Craft and Sculpture Fair at Hylands Park

This weekend Hylands Park hosted an Art, Craft and Sculpture fair. Unlike other fairs I’ve been to recently, I was really impressed. There were multiple tents with lots of different craft demonstrations. See below some pics of my favourites.

I think the most impressive of all the crafts I saw at the fair had to be this one. Paul Hornby delicately cuts away at old coins to create intricate jewellery. It was just fascinating to watch.

Another of my favourites was Martin Green and his Victorian circular knitting machine. With the twirl of a handle the machine quickly churned out meters of knitting. Its fascinating to see old machinery preserved and still in use today.

The guys from Stokes of England gave me an excellent demonstration of heating up iron and shaping it on the anvil.

I loved seeing the wood carvers with their chain saws carving away at big chunks of wood. It really is a great skill to be able to carve using a chain saw, you would think that you would struggle to get such precision.

30 Days of Creativity

I have decided to participate in 30 Days of Creativity. Its a great idea to get the social community creating and sharing every day for the whole month of June. Unfortunately Ive come across this little challenge a week in, so I am a little behind. But hey its better late than never. I plan to publish my daily creations as a weekly installment so stay posted 🙂

Stitch and Craft Show

This weekend I visited the Stitch and Craft show at Olympia. I was hoping to find some wool for a throw and cushion I intend on making for my bedroom but the show seemed to be heavily dominated by cross stitching stools and there wasn’t a very wide selection of wools to pick from. It was worth attending and I quite liked the decopage stool pictured above,  but I would have liked to see more stools like this.

Xmas Decoration Fabric!

Last week I went to Columbia Road “Christmas Wednesdays” to have a look around with a friend. Its a beautiful little street with a variety of quaint shops selling sweets and cakes, artwork, fabric, plants and various international crafts. On Wednesdays in December, the street gets into the Christmas spirit and the shops stay open late to greet you with mince pies and mulled wine. Its a perfect way to start December and Christmas shopping.

A Dandelion Painting

I decided our living room needed a bit of colour so I set about my first painting since college (7 years ago). I wanted something a little abstract but with some texture. I built up the canvas a little with texture paste first then glued on some beads on to finish it off.

Blurb Photo Books

I recently sent off for a book from blurb of my holiday in Hawaii. I am really pleased with how it turned out. I would certainly recommend them. I definatley think its the way to go rather than big old photo albums. My future travels are going to look great all lined up on my shelf.

(Sorry about the pic it was taken on my iphone! Not the best quality in the world)

Wedding Cakes

My sister-in-law and I took on the brave challenge of making my wedding cake. We wanted to try something that would look a little different and be a little bit of a challenge. My sister-in-law took on the baking and plain icing and I set about piping all the flowers and wrapping in ribbons. Im not sure we will be doing it again in a hurry but they looked really great on the day, so it was worth it in the end.

Origami Wedding Table Decorations

Inspired by these lovely creations I set about creating my own. I unfortunately couldn’t find such pretty paper in the shade of green I wanted, so I used the same green paper that I used for my invitations. They looked really great on the day.

Wedding Stationery

I designed all the stationery for my big day and now its all over it seems a shame not to keep some kind of visual record of all the hours I put in working away in illustrator, printing and trimming. So here it is the finished collection of invites…

You can see the full collection on my flickr.

Exquizite Stationery

In preperation for the craft fair we will be taking part in at Cressing Temple Barns, Essex. I have prepared some business cards to hand out and stickers to place on the purchased and wrapped jewellery. I am quite pleased with the final product. I have really enjoyed branding this small venture.
